Pickleball is currently one of the fastest growing sports in the country. The number of players continues to grow significantly, which also increases the need for pickleball courts. Pickleball is a sport that draws on elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It involves ping-pong-like paddles, a perforated ball, and a net, though the net is set lower than those used in badminton.
The Beginning
Pickleball was created in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, which is located near Seattle. It came about because Joel Pritchard and Bill Bell arrived home one day to find both of their families sitting around, bored. They had a badminton court available to them, so they set out to find the necessary equipment to play badminton. They couldn’t find all of the right equipment, so they improvised, and pickleball was born. The rules adapted as they got more into the game, though they relied heavily on the rules for tennis and badminton. The following weekend, they introduced their friend, Barney McCallum, to the game. All three men are credited with creating the official rules for pickleball.
Pickleball Courts
Pickleball can be played on badminton or tennis courts, though it requires a lower net. Pickleball-specific, or multi-use, courts can be obtained to provide the best possible experience for pickleball players. There are many benefits to regularly playing pickleball. It can improve the health of individuals, improve their overall coordination, and provide many other physical and mental benefits. These benefits can be maximized by obtaining a pickleball court for your yard.
